Last week, an organization known as Family Welfare Life Improvement Action Plan in collaboration with the Japanese International Cooperation, JAICA, launched a pilot project on life improvement for rural women through the family management agreement in Yaounde V, Mfoundi Division.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Yaounde V Divisional Officer expressed thanks to the Japanese International Cooperation and the organisers. He promised his adequate support in the realisation of the objective set for the project.

According to the Project Director, Mme Stella Ketchuo, men too should put in their utmost in the family up-keep. She said the population of Cameroon is estimated at about 20 million with women contributing 51%, a proportion of which 70% is made up of rural women who are responsible for agro-pastoral activities and household chores.

She also said the project was aimed at bridging the gap in the economic partnership between husbands and wives.

The project key activities are geared at conducting a baseline survey to investigate the actual life of rural women in households. It is also aimed at carrying out awareness through sensitising the community and other stakeholders in accessing the need of selected pilot families. It is design to produce training models in capacity-building for the families.

The pilot sampling techniques are tested in families of Yaounde V sub-division.

Accordingly, the project will improve the living standards of rural women within selected households of Mfoundi division and will improve the status of women in the households.
