A group of scholars and panAfricanists under the platform called “Mandela Forum” shall join the International community in commemorating the Nelson Mandela Day on Sunday 18 July 2010 in Ayaba Hotel Hall in Bamenda as from 2pm. The Nelson Mandela Day has been institutionalised by the United Nations as a day that the citizens of the world should use for serving their community. Because Nelson Mandela spent 67 years of his life fighting for freedom, the UN has urged citizens to spend 67 minutes of the day in some service that would benefit their community. For the last two years Mandela Day has been celebrated in Buea but this year the Mandela Forum has under the patronage of the South African High Commission in Cameroon, decided to hold most of the activities in Bamenda. The Activities shall comprise a photo exhibition on the life and struggle of the icon and world statesman Nelson Mandela that shall be displayed on the Commercial Avenue in Bamenda on 17 July and a community service visit to one of the Orphanages in Bamenda. The climax of the Mandela Day shall be on 18 July (birthday of Nelson Mandela) when the general public is expected to attend a Cultural session of brief paper presentations, film show of Mandela, play back music, traditional dances, choral music, stand up comedy, poetry recitals and a fun-filled dance to South African music. The Mandela day on 18 July shall hold at the Ayaba hotel hall as from 2pm under the auspices of a delegation from the South African High Commission and local dignitaries but the occasion will be meaningless without the free and relaxed participation of lovers of Nelson Mandela in Bamenda. Meanwhile there shall be a Youth Seminar on “ Citizenship Education” and Community service visit to an orphanage that will hold in Buea on the 17th and 18th July 2010. The aim of these activities is to inspire Africans on the shared community values which South Africans call “ubuntu” and promote a culture of good governance and sterling leadership qualities that have been the hallmark of the Great Madiba as well as to enhance the goal of a United Africa. The Public is invited to turn out massively during the Cultural session on 18/7/10 in Ayaba Hotel Bamenda The Forum has as Coordinator Mwalimu George Ngwane and other members include Charlie Mbonteh, Charly Ndi Chia, Choves Loh, Simon Nkwenti, Nicholas Tabot and Azore Opio. |
