The President of the Republic, Paul Biya has signed a number of decrees appointing Magistrates and Presidents of High courts. The decrees were signed on Thursday 8 July 2010 at the end of the Higher Judicial Council meeting at the State House in Yaounde. The meeting was presided over by the President of the Republic, Paul Biya in his capacity as head of the magistracy and President of the council. The Higher Judicial Council dwelled on appointments, promotions and judgment of two magistrates accused of having committed some acts of professional misdemeanor. The accused Magistrates came along with their lawyers for the in camera deliberations whose outcome was not made public. The Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Justice and Vice President of the Supreme Council of Magistracy, Amadou Ali at the end of the meeting said that the present session examined the integration of graduates of 2008 and 2009 into the profession of magistracy, the transfer of magistrates and the examination of requests for Presidential Clemency for convicts on the death row. |
